Wonderful mixture of nostalgic reminiscence with modern-day romance
ByJeff B on May 22, 2015 Format: Paperback I wasn’t sure if “This Nearly Was Mine” would be my cup of tea, because I seldom read romances or memoirs of a romantic bent, but I decided to give the book a ready anyways to expand my horizons a bit. I found myself pleasantly surprised at how well put-together the book was, and how much I ended up enjoying it. Nancy Farkas has a delightful writing style that makes it easy to get immersed in the book and completely lose track of time while reading it. Farkas has a sense of humor and wit that is a rare commodity these days, and she puts it to good use within the novel. Perhaps my favorite parts of the novel were the hubris-filled instructions to the director of the future movie version of the book regarding casting choices, soundtrack, and even lighting and scene composition. I won’t write about the plot or storyline here, because plenty of reviewers have already done just that. I will say, however, that Farkas has done an excellent job of taking her life experiences and injecting them into a story with a solid, well-developed, and excellently paced plot. I enjoyed every word of “This Nearly Was Mine,” finding myself invested in the characters and their happiness almost from the first page of the book. Great job, Nancy!
