5.0 out of 5 stars Book Club Favorite, August 1, 2014
By Zelda Verified Purchase This review is from: This Nearly Was Mine: A Novel (Paperback) A friend of someone in my book club suggested This Nearly Was Mine for our group. The main character, Annie, had interesting relationships with her family, her friends, her husband and of course, her ex-boyfriend. There are so many facets to this story-everyone related to something and we all had very different opinions about Francisco and what Annie should have done. If you are old enough to understand the movie and song references, you will enjoy the book even more. Spoiler alert: I loved the Moody Blues "Go Now" reference-I couldn't help thinking, "We've already said 'Goodbye'"-it was perfect! We all sat around drinking sangria, talking about life in the 80's and the choices we made in our own lives. My book club has been together for almost 10 years and this was the first time we talked openly about our feelings. We never had so much fun at our meetings-in fact, we usually don't end up talking about the book we read for very long, we just eat, drink and socialize a little bit. Our book club lasted almost 4 hours that night-that never happened before! We are all waiting for Nancy Farkas to write a sequel or another book that will make us think, which is rare in a love story these days. At the end of our book club meeting, we all promised ourselves that we would watch "French Kiss"-as Annie suggested.
